Everybody’s Playground
Art Direction · Spatial Design · Murals · Graphic Design · Artist Programme.
Everybody’s Playground is a movement and community space built around the idea that movement is for everybody.
The project is rooted in body neutrality, diversity and inclusion, creating a space where people can move, train and feel comfortable being themselves without feeling like they have to look or perform a certain way.
I’m the Art Director for the space, working across the whole visual experience — from mural painting and spatial design to graphic design for posters, merchandise and other communications.
I want the art direction to feel energetic, playful and welcoming, while reflecting what makes Everybody’s Playground different. The artwork isn’t simply there to make the space look good; it’s part of creating the atmosphere, identity and experience of the place.
Murals
Artist Programme
A big part of my role is developing an artist programme around two central walls in the space, which we use to showcase local artists whose work connects with the values of Everybody’s Playground — from body neutrality and diversity to identity, movement and self-expression.
The idea is to give artists who are just starting to exhibit their work a place to show it, and to make exhibiting feel a little less intimidating and formal. The exhibitions are held as community events, bringing people together around the work and giving the artists an opportunity to share their ideas with a real audience.
I also love the idea of using the space to bring together communities that don't necessarily cross paths. Someone who might not normally think about walking into a gym or boxing studio might come through the door because they're interested in an exhibition or an artist event. And someone who comes to train might discover an artist or a perspective they wouldn't otherwise have encountered.
For me, this is one of the most interesting things about working with Everybody’s Playground — using art to open the doors of a movement space to a wider community, while using the uniqueness of the space to give emerging artists a different kind of stage and voice.
